Island of Happiness
Island of Rab
Welcome to Rab!
Once the center of Christianity and also one of the main seaports that connected the maritime trade flows of the East and the West, the island of Rab got its name from the Illyrian word “Arba” which means “wooded”, “green” and considering the abundance of green areas of pine forests and especially holm oak forests, this name is really not surprising. The Kalifront peninsula with its Dundo forest, which is considered one of the largest holm oak forest communities in Europe, stands out in particular. When we talk about the natural resources of the island, it is inevitable to mention a large number of beautiful natural beaches and secluded coves, and there are more than 30 sandy beaches, so you can often hear about Rab being a true sandy paradise.
Explore Rab!
The mild and pleasant Mediterranean climate of the island of Rab allows you to enjoy its beaches not only during the summer, but also in the spring and autumn months. Throughout history, this climate has helped the development of rich flora and fauna, and in combination with the richness of the Adriatic Sea, Rab offers a unique gastronomic experience. You can find traditional specialties and fresh seafood delicacies just a few minutes walk from our accommodation to the old town center.
The recognizable view of the old town with its four bell towers symbolizes the four seasons, while their height corresponds to the average air temperature during these periods. The connection between architecture and the passage of time is also reflected in the layout of the streets – the four main streets (Riva, Donja, Srednja and Gornja) represent the seasons, while 12 smaller streets symbolize the months of the year. It especially comes to life in the period from 25 to 27 July, when the Rabska Fjera – the largest medieval cultural event on the island – is held in the heart of the old town.
